Nativity Ger

This authentic Mongolian Ger and Nativity figurines set has been lovingly created by the women of Artis Altai. Located in Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert, Artis Altai is an artisans' workshop that provides employment opportunities for women who have little or no income. Artis Altai combines traditional felt-making expertise, used since the time of Genghis Khan, with innovative contemporary craft designs. Every purchase contributes directly towards improving the living conditions of women and their families whilst offering hope, confidence and dignity through professional activity. This business is now a legal co-operative, owned and managed completely by the women themselves.

Dimensions: Ger- 16cm diameter and 55cm circumference.  Figurines- 8cm high.

Materials: natural wool, cotton and ribbon

Each Ger has a hinged roof which opens to reveal the figurines inside.  Figurines included are Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus in a little felt bed, shepherd, sheep, wise men, camel and angel.

The figurines are designed to stand alone and feature exquisite Mongolian detail.  They can also be used as finger puppets.  Specific detail colours and features vary as each piece is completely hand crafted, making each set unique.
